About the Bute Collection

The Bute Collection at Mount Stuart is home to one of the UK’s foremost private collections of fine and decorative art. With an outstanding collection of British portraiture, 16th century Italian masterpieces, and Dutch and Flemish Old Masters, there are also exceptional pieces of furniture, silver, tapestry, textiles, porcelain and ceramics. Housed within spectacular Victorian Gothic Revival architecture, the nineteenth century historic interiors have been decorated by eminent designers H.W. Lonsdale, Nathaniel Westlake, William Burges, Robert Weir Schultz, and Thomas Nicholls. Mount Stuart also has extensive libraries with over 27,000 books and an internationally historic archive with material from the 12th century to the present day.
