IBAC Meet the Makers
Come along and see some of Bute's talented craftspeople & artists showing off their creativity. Drawing, stitching, jewellery making and more will be on display on selected Sundays throughout the season.
The Isle of Bute Artist’s Collective (IBAC) will be running a series of five ‘Meet the Maker’ events at Mount Stuart this year.
The events are free for all Mount Stuart members and visitors to attend. The sessions are on a drop in basis from 11am-3pm at the Family Entrance on the House forecourt.
The Meet The Maker events will take place on the following dates:
Sunday 29th May
Debbie Willett (jeweller), Michael Gahagan (painter) and Pat Chandler (jeweller)
Sunday 26th June
Alison Clarke is a stitcher, she will be showing visitors how she uses gold foil and fabric to make gloriously colourful greeting cards on her sewing machine.
Alison Gollings Clark (puppeteer):
Alison Clark is a puppeteer and storyteller and she will be bringing along a wonderful variety of handmade puppets.
Sunday 31st July
Sarah Jane Hemsley Upholstery:
Sarah Jane is a professionally trained and qualified traditional upholsterer. Sarah has had her own upholstery business for over 10 years following a change of career after retraining in Cornwall with a Master Upholsterer.
Sarah will be demonstrating the stages of an antique dining chair rebuild using the traditional upholstery methods of a hand stitched and stuffed seat pad. This will include the foundations of webbing and hessian and then the stitching of the 1st stuffing of coir.
There will be a display of traditional materials used in upholstery which Sarah can talk you through and the chance to make your own fabric covered buttons using the button press and dies.
Laura Herrington (artist):
Laura will be talking visitors through her resin art processes. From how she produces moulds to the finished product, and how she incorporates resin into her acrylic paintings.
Sunday 28th August
Ruth Slater Artist (painter) & Animac (jeweller):
Ruth and Annie will be showing their own work including Annie’s new jewellery collection and Ruth’s latest illustration work and sketchbooks. They will also be displaying their collaborative work on bespoke commissions including wedding stationery, maps, brochures, signs and stationery.
Sunday 25th September
Mags McLaren (mixed media artist):
Mags McLaren will show a piece of mixed media art being created from start to finish with the aid of part finished pieces made earlier, explaining the inspiration from one of her photographs. Mags will also select jewellery components inspired by the photograph and demonstrate simple jewellery techniques. An opportunity will be available for visitors to have a go at making jewellery using these techniques and finished pieces will be available for display and purchase.
Elspeth McVey (woolen items):
Elspeth will be showing the natural colour range of the sheep from Ascog Farm with examples of their fleeces. Elspeth will demonstrate how to make yarn skeins from the processed wool using an Amish swift and also wool cakes with a yarnwinder. In addition to an introduction to knitting for beginners, Elspeth will show some simple examples of fair isle knitting to knit hearts and flowers and cable stitch.
