House to Hospital Tour launches at Mount Stuart

Mount Stuart as a WW1 Naval Hospital

From 1914 to 1919 Mount Stuart was transformed into a naval hospital when Augusta Crichton Stuart, Marchioness of Bute, offered the House to the Admiralty. Over 2,000 patients were admitted and treated at Mount Stuart; the Marble Hall, Drawing Room and Dining Room were all used as Wards and the Conservatory became an operating theatre.

Join one of our senior House guides to explore how Mount Stuart became a fully-functioning Royal Naval Hospital during the First World War and find out more about the life of Ninian Crichton Stuart, second son of the 3rd Marquess who served in the War.

Tickets cost: £5.00PP, or £15.00PP including general admission. Tour runs every Tuesday and Thursday 2.30-3.30pm.
