Alberta Whittle: Under the skin of the ocean, the thing urges us up wild

Mount Stuart Trust's first contemporary art exhibition of 2024, is by Scottish-Barbadian artist Alberta Whittle.

Under the skin of the ocean, the thing urges us up wild is a site specific series of works, inspired by the history and landscapes of Mount Stuart House, the island of Bute and the Clyde. An immersive installation that considers ideas connected to ancestral roots, trade routes, routes of power and roots of empire, revealed across the site of Mount Stuart.

The exhibition runs from 1 June until 25 August 2024 with works situated in the Entrance Hall, Marble Hall, Gallery and front lawn.  Find out more about the exhibition, and Alberta here.
