September Opening Hours

From 6th to 30th September our opening hours are:

House: 12.00noon-3.00pm (last entry 2.00pm), daily
Gardens: 10.00am-5.00pm, daily
Cafe: 11.00am-3.00pm, Wednesday to Sunday only
Tickets & Information: 11.00am-3.00pm, daily

Pre-booking your ticket online is strongly recommended to guarantee entry and reduce queuing time on arrival. Purchase your tickets here.

Closed Dates

On some dates throughout the year Mount Stuart may close early or open late due to private events. On these dates tour times may differ to those advertised, and some rooms may not be available to visit.

Mount Stuart is located on the Isle of Bute, the most accessible island on the west coast of Scotland. The Isle of Bute is approximately 90 minutes from Glasgow by road or rail, including a 35 minute ferry crossing from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay. Alternatively another ferry runs from Colintraive to Rhubodach, taking less than 5 minutes.

By Car

Mount Stuart is 5 miles south of the island's principal town: Rothesay, and is well signposted from the ferry terminal. If you are travelling using a sat nav system, please use the postcode PA20 9LR. Get directions on Google Maps.

Car parking is available free of charge on site. Please be aware that we do not have a designated parking area for motor homes.

By Bus

West Coast Motors operate a regular bus service 490/90 from Rothesay (Guildford Square) to Mount Stuart. Please be aware that the service drops off close to the entrance to the estate which is a 20 minute walk from the main house and cafe.
