20th Anniversary of the 1905 Bute Wedding Film

On the 20th anniversary of the discovery of the 4th Marquess and Marchioness of Bute's Wedding Film, the Mount Stuart Trust is delighted to celebrate the occasion with an exclusive Talk, Film Viewing and Supper Club on Friday 28th July.

On the 6th July 1905, John Crichton-Stuart, 4th Marquess of Bute, married Augusta Bellingham in Kilsaran Church, near Castle Bellingham, as part of a celebration marked in both Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. 98 years after the 4th Marquess and Marchioness were married, a film of their wedding was found in the attics of Mount Stuart. This is now believed to be the earliest wedding film in the existence in the UK.

On Friday 28th July 2023, Mount Stuart Trust will be celebrating 20 years since the 4th Marquess of Bute's Wedding Film was discovered with an exclusive evening event. The evening will consist of an extended talk featuring three special guests and two short film screenings, alongside a Supper Club in our Courtyard Café earlier in the evening.

Join us for 'An Evening Celebration: The Discovery of the 1905 Bute Wedding Film' on Friday 28th July. Find out more about the Talk and Supper Club on our What's On page here:
