CHARTS has enabled a unique cultural project at Rothesay Academy with S2 pupils funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of Argyll Aspires engaging young people with their heritage throughout Argyll and Bute. Over the past two months, pupils have engaged in workshops with the Cultural Coordinator for Argyll and Bute Council, Madeleine Conn, Mount Stuart’s Curator of Contemporary Art, Morven Gregor and Collections Curator, Jessica Insley, to develop their professional skills and raise awareness about the Argyll Collection. The exhibition Dawn ‘til Dusk is part of CHARTS' wider project, Argyll Aspires, which has established two Modern Apprenticeships and a paid traineeship in heritage venues in Argyll and Bute.
The Argyll Collection is a nationally outstanding collection of 173 artworks established between 1960 and 1990, as a unique learning resource for the young people of Argyll and Bute. Aiming to increase awareness of The Argyll Collections' educational and contemporary cultural value, Argyll Aspires has worked in partnership to empower pupils attending Rothesay Academy to consider The Argyll Collections' relevance to them and their own curatorial process. Dawn ‘til Dusk highlights a selection of works from the Argyll Collection chosen by the pupils, allowing young people to access cultural heritage and develop skills guided by a range of professional partners.
Dawn ‘til Dusk will be on display and open to the public from Saturday, 24th June - Monday, 26th June, 11.00am – 4.00pm in the new learning studio, part of the surviving Georgian wing of Mount Stuart, entry via Courtyard Café.
Dawn ‘til Dusk is part of CHARTS Argyll Aspires project, made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and supported by Mount Stuart, Bòrd na Gàidhlig, The Argyll Collection and Argyll and Bute Council.
"Working with Rothesay Academy pupils on this exhibition has been a fantastic way to animate and champion the Argyll Collection. We hope what we have all learned can suggest ways to continue working with and supporting the Collection." Morven Gregor, Curator of Contemporary and Learning, Mount Stuart Trust
