Celebrating 30 Years of the Mount Stuart Trust
As June draws to a close, we reflect on an unforgettable month of 30th Anniversary celebrations.
A landmark exhibition: From Brick to Building
On 2 June, we unveiled From Brick to Building: Mount Stuart’s Development, tracing the estate’s journey, from its earliest architectural incarnations through to the magnificent neo-Gothic reconstruction. The exhibition runs until 31 August and features monthly architectural talks by Archivist Lynsey Nairn, offering exclusive insight with additional archival material.
A weekend of performance & glamour
Then, on 14 June, Linder presented her A Kind of Glamour About Me exhibition with an improvised performance piece in the Marble Hall for 160 guests. The following day, the artist was in conversation with Trust Chair Sophie Crichton Stuart, sharing insight into her work. Running until 31 August with 'traces', works on paper, costumes and props, subtly animating the rooms of Mount Stuart.
Growing our landscape, growing our community
We were excited to invite Primary 1 pupils from the island to plant 30 native broad-leaf trees, symbolising growth and legacy. Local artist Ieva Grigelionyte crafted a bespoke ice cream flavour for our first 30 guests and mini gardeners, adding a sweet moment to our actual anniversary of public opening, June 16.
Our monthly community discussion sessions continue to thrive, many thanks to everyone who joined and contributed.
Limited‑edition commemoratives
We're proud to have worked with local designer AniMac on a range of specially commissioned pearl jewellery and a heritage-focused guidebook. Perfect keepsakes commemorating three decades of Mount Stuart.
Chair’s Supper Club & reflections on 30 years of the Mount Stuart Trust
Trust Chair Sophie Crichton Stuart hosted a special Anniversary Supper Club, reflecting on 30 years of Mount Stuart Trust. She spoke on modern heritage conservation, early restoration projects, and the enduring importance of innovation and craftsmanship. Emphasising collaboration across the Trust, she shared, “sustainability and community is my mantra!” When asked her vision for 2055, she responded that design, art, craftsmanship and collaboration must remain at the heart of Mount Stuart, and she hopes the Trust thrives as a sustainable, biodiversity‑rich, engaged, community‑focused charity.
Heartfelt thanks & looking ahead
We extend our deepest gratitude to all our visitors - much valued local members and new guests from across the globe, for sharing this milestone with us. Here’s to the next 30 years of discovery, stewardship and inspiration!
