Juicy Bute Apple Harvest Weekend
On a glorious September afternoon around 100 people picked, juiced and tasted apples at the Mount Stuart Community Orchard. In a hands-on day, locals and visitors of all ages filled baskets with apples and then learned about and got involved in every other step of the process of making juice.
Hosted by Mount Stuart Trust the event was a collaboration with the Kilchattan Community Orchard and Achievement Bute. As well as tasting and taking home some of the freshly pressed juice, participants were also invited to taste and compare single apple varieties prepared by the Kilchattan orchard team.
Achievement Bute were on hand to decorate bottles with informative labels and jolly stickers, as well leading games and activities to encourage young people to learn more about the different apple varieties.
The next day on Sunday 25th September the apple press was out once again this time at Ardencraig Gardens with more juice available for drinking and tasting. Another busy day saw the Ardencraig cafe open and a number of local crafts people displaying and selling their work.
