Celebrating Black History Month

This Black History Month, we recognise the work of Black artists whose practices have brought new perspectives to Mount Stuart.

From Elaine Mitchener’s site-specific performance-installation | tongues of fire | yearning… | a communion with the invisible | in the Marble Hall, and Alberta Whittle’s exploration of ancestry, trade and empire, to Edmonia Lewis’s Bust of Christ and Veronica Ryan’s current exhibition, The Weather Inside II, these artists invite us to consider the connections between art, memory, routes of power, identity and place.

Their work offers different ways of engaging with the histories held within buildings, collections and landscapes, reminding us that these histories can be understood from many perspectives.

Veronica Ryan’s The Weather Inside II is on view at Mount Stuart until 18 October.
