Mount Stuart is located on the Isle of Bute, the most accessible island on the west coast of Scotland. The Isle of Bute is approximately 90 minutes from Glasgow by road or rail, including a 35 minute ferry crossing from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay. Alternatively another ferry runs from Colintraive to Rhubodach, taking less than 5 minutes.

By Car

Mount Stuart is 5 miles south of the island's principal town: Rothesay, and is well signposted from the ferry terminal. If you are travelling using a sat nav system, please use the postcode PA20 9LR and follow the coastal route in the direction of Kerrycroy village. Get directions on Google Maps.

Car parking is available free of charge on site. Please be aware that we do not have a designated parking area for motor homes.

By Bus

West Coast Motors operate a regular bus service 490/90 from Rothesay (Guildford Square) to Mount Stuart. The bus drops off and picks up directly at Mount Stuart House on open dates. On closed dates the bus will stop and pick-up from Kerrycroy which is a 19 minute walk to Mount Stuart House.

By Bicycle

Bicycle storage racks are available at the car parking area and at the main house.
