Vacancy – Rural Business Manager
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced small business manager to develop a new sawmill business near Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, Scotland. The position would best suit an entrepreneurial team player with relevant experience managing a small business to oversee the successful development of the business and its sales. The successful applicant will be required to actively manage a small team and take a hands-on approach to all aspects of the business. Along with being able to inspire a strong safety culture within the business, we are looking for somebody with good personal organisation, relationship building and problem solving skills together with a ‘can do’ attitude. Experience in the forestry or timber sector is preferable but not essential. The role holds P&L and budgetary responsibility for the business and requires competent IT skills.
The Sawmill boasts a new sawn timber manufacturing line as well as a woodchip biomass and firewood production facility. The opportunity represents an exciting challenge for an experienced business manager with a broad range of skills to ensure the long-term success of this fledgling island business.
Bute Sawmill is owned and administered by the Mount Stuart Trust steward of a significant range of rural assets across Bute. Its key charitable objectives are to support, enable and promote learning, innovation and creativity whilst ensuring the stewardship of the heritage assets in its care. A desire to be a leader in the delivery of these objectives is at the core of its growth strategy. The successful candidate will work closely with the Trust’s Rural Director and play an important part in developing a business that helps to deliver the Trust’s vision of rural growth and opportunity through a sustainable forest sector.
Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body is preferable.
