The Mount Stuart Trust

The Mount Stuart Trust is a Charitable Trust founded in 1985, which works to fulfill the vision of the late John, 6th Marquess of Bute. He believed that the public should be able to enjoy Mount Stuart and its gardens and surrounding grounds, and benefit from its collections and archives. John Bute generously endowed The Mount Stuart Trust with the Bute Estate to provide the support which enables this remarkable house and stunning gardens to be preserved and opened to visitors. The Trust owns and administers Mount Stuart and the Bute Estate.

 

The Bute Estate

The aims of the Trust are to conserve, preserve and maintain the house, gardens and surrounding grounds for future generations, whilst facilitating public interest, understanding and appreciation of fine and decorative art, architecture and the rural environment, and to promote access, education and research.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced small business manager to develop a new sawmill business near Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, Scotland. The position would best suit an entrepreneurial team player with relevant experience managing a small business to oversee the successful development of the business and its sales.  The successful applicant will be required to actively manage a small team and take a hands-on approach to all aspects of the business. Along with being able to inspire a strong safety culture within the business, we are looking for somebody with good personal organisation, relationship building and problem solving skills together with a  ‘can do’ attitude.

Mount Stuart Trust is now seeking a Collections Curator who combines practical experience in collections care and collections management with working knowledge of exhibitions and research. You will be instrumental in assisting in the realisation of an integrated approach to managing the care, access, information and development of the Bute Collection.

Research Education Assistant

Mount Stuart Trust is now seeking a Research & Education Assistant who combines an interest in and knowledge of cataloguing, research and practical hands-on experience in a historic environment. This is a fixed term position for three years and an ideal role for a recent post-graduate who is seeking solid and versatile exposure to the heritage world.

Bute Kitchen Vacancies

Cafe Assistants

We are looking for smart, enthusiastic, energetic front of house team members and KPs with a ‘can do’ attitude, for our busy and vibrant cafe to work part-time including weekend work.

If you are a friendly, enthusiastic, trustworthy, efficient, and hard-working person with common sense and ability to deal with the public then we would love to hear from you.

Team Leader

We are seeking a suitably experienced team leader for this role who is hard-working, efficient, a team player and who has excellent customer service experience to lead a small front-of-house team.

The right candidate will work closely with the Kitchen Supervisor to ensure the smooth running of the Café. At peak times during the season, the Café can be very busy and the right candidate must be able to handle high volumes of visitors.

Chef

Bute Kitchen @ Mount Stuart requires a motivated and creative Chef to join the team for 2019. Bute Kitchen aims to showcase the very best food and drink that the Isle of Bute has to offer. You need to be a passionate foodie with relevant experience in a similar role.You will work closely with, and report to, our Head Chef to deliver a first class food experience to our visitors.

The successful candidate can expect a competitive rate of pay, free entry to the House and Gardens, meals on duty and the chance to work with some of the best produce the Estate and island has to offer.

Immediate start available. Rate of pay is dependent on experience.  Hours will be dependent on the needs of the business.

Please note this position is offered on a seasonal basis until 25th October 2019.  There may be an opportunity for employment out with the season depending on business growth.
