This is an exciting and rare opportunity for an experienced individual. You will have overall responsibility to conserve and preserve the Bute Collection to the highest recognised professional standards, maintaining best practise at all times.
The role will encompass outreach programmes; loans and collaborations with recognised establishments worldwide; recommendations for acquisitions; overseeing ongoing cataloguing programmes of the Collections Databases to recognised national and international collections standards such as ISAD(G); involvement in publications/exhibitions/ interpretation/lectures/training and education programmes.
Educated to degree level in an appropriate subject and holding a professional qualification and relevant experience in an appropriate Collections field (eg archives, museums, galleries, libraries), the successful candidate must have excellent knowledge of current professional standards; have proficient IT skills and experience of working with collections-based databases; have excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and above all have relevant successful experience of working with a major historical Collection (including the movement and transportation of artworks). You will have a proven record of successfully developing external links with related heritage bodies.
As part of the management team, you must have a proven ability to manage and motivate staff, have honed organisational skills and be accustomed to adopting a can-do/hands-on approach.
This is a truly unique opportunity to develop a high-profile Collections department within a highly successful visitor attraction of great historical significance. The post-holder must be prepared to reside on the Isle of Bute, be physically fit, hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to travel. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Required for an immediate start, the successful candidate must demonstrate proven experience in the sawmill/forestry sector. You will be responsible for promotion, marketing and new business campaigns and possess strong management, budgetary and IT skills, a working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and the ability to quickly build effective business relationships. As an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills you will be responsible for the project management of an exciting development phase of an established sawmill.
