Step onto the Isle of Bute and you will discover a land rich in heritage and lush natural beauty. This most accessible of Scotland’s unspoilt west coast isles is just an hour from the hustle and bustle of Glasgow.
Leave your stress behind as you enjoy golf, horse riding or walking in the extraordinarily varied landscape. The rugged north is dominated by heather moor land, the south has gentle rolling hills and the west coast is sprinkled with sandy beaches. The azure waters make this a mecca for fishing, watersports and sailing amongst the lochs and isles of the Firth of Clyde.
Steeped in history, Bute has a colourful past, from early Christian settlements to Viking invasions. The Stuart Kings chose Rothesay Castle as their summer residence - an unusual circular stronghold dating back to the 13th Century. Today, the island continues to attract those keen to revel in nature’s rugged charms.
How do I get there?
The Isle of Bute is approximately 50 minutes by road/rail from Glasgow, followed by 35 minutes ferry crossing from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay. Mount Stuart is 5 miles South of Rothesay.
