Garden weddings are perhaps the most romantic and Mount Stuart's are amongst Europe's finest. Over 300 acres of beautiful wilderness, woodland and formal gardens surround the house.
Painstakingly planned, planted and nurtured since 1718, these beautiful gardens can provide a superb natural backdrop for your special day.
Several distinct areas of the grounds are licensed for civil ceremonies, including the Front Lawn, Rock Garden and the Wee Garden. Each is maintained to the highest possible standard and each offers its own unique features.
Front Lawn
The expansive and carefully tended Front Lawn provides a theatrical green stage with the sandstone palace as its backdrop. Your views open out to the Firth of Clyde and all the glory of Bute's rugged coast. Naturally magnificent, the lawn has attracted many glittering occasions.
Rock Garden
The Rock Garden occupies the most prominent spot in the grounds. It is based around two burns that snake down the hill and converge in a large fish-filled pond by the House. The burns are crossed by an intricate network of gravel paths and stepping stones. Benefiting from a milder climate than is usual, this garden is home to a handsome range of rare evergreen trees and plants from the East.
Wee Garden
The Wee Garden is the oldest formally laid out area in the grounds and is fortunate to be one of the mildest on the estate. Spreading over an area of five acres (anything but wee!), these gardens boast many exotic plants from Chile, Tasmania, Spain and Australia. In the centre of the garden stands a magnificent 17th Century obelisk sundial covered in deeply carved symbols and dials.
