The Drawing Room

A myriad of themes captivate visitors in this outrageously beautiful room. The 3rd Marquess’ interest in heraldry, mythology and the natural world combine to create an interior rich in detail and opulence.

Sheer exuberance and romanticism are celebrated in this room, which boasts a fine collection of art including works by Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese. The beautifully crafted stained glass windows depict figures from Greek Mythology, including the nine Muses (daughters of Zeus) and Erato, the muse of love poetry.

The room also features an elaborate ceiling bearing the coats of arms of the male descendants of the 2nd Earl of Bute and a notable collection of furniture, including tables by Robert Adam, which are topped with Roman mosaic.

Complete with a splendid marble fireplace and east-facing balcony, this room has provided a pleasant and comfortable retreat for generations.
